Genie Manufacturing Corporate Profile
Corporate History : Message from CEO : Capabilities : Products : R&D : Home
Genie Manufacturing Corporation was founded in 1973 by Sheldon Gleason. Originally named Genie Filter Company Inc. (a spin on the founder's wife's nickname - "Jeannie"!) and located in West Henrietta, New York, USA, the initial efforts of the company were directed towards the distribution of filters for the industrial heating, ventilating and air-conditioning market.
In 1974, the company began manufacturing specialty filters for use in office equipment. Over the next several years the distribution business was phased out as manufactured products grew in volume.
In 1985, Genie Filter Company purchased Howard & Bowen Company, a 50-year-old chemical blending and packaging supplier to the same major customers in the office equipment industry that Genie was serving. During the next three years the operations of the two companies were fully integrated and Genie Manufacturing Corporation was introduced to replace the two separate names.
Today, Genie provides a variety of products and services to such customers as Xerox, Bausch & Lomb, Eastman Kodak Company, Johnson & Johnson Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics, Lexmark, Heidelberg Digital, Danka, and others.
Genie has achieved considerable success with, and loyalty from, major "Blue-Chip" customers through on-going commitment to achieving higher quality, lower costs, and better service than our competitors. We implement the best features of large and small companies to offer the best of both worlds in a supplier. We have always been able to satisfy our customers, and the Genie Team would be excited to "show you our stuff!"
Sincerely,
Jeffrey A. Gleason
President

This facility houses the company headquarters and all administrative functions, and a majority of our manufacturing as well. Preventative Maintenance & Service Kits for use by copier service engineers and Installation Kits for blood analyzer machines are produced here. Specialty oils for use in copiers, air-conditioning equipment, refrigerant reclamation and other applications are also packaged in this plant. Also housed at this plant is our custom-developed humidity control pad process area. Our customer for this product had trouble developing a process to successfully, and consistently produce these pads, and came to us for assistance. We've been producing them ever since!
We also manufacture all of our filters at this location. A wide variety of materials and media are converted into toner, particle and ozone filters. As well as converting standard commercial filter medias, Genie also exclusively represents Japanese manufacturers of state-of-the-art catalytic material.
This purpose-built facility, which meets New York State building codes as an "explosion proof" plant, houses all chemical blending and packaging equipment. The primary products produced are specialty cleaners and polishes used on the optical components and photoconductive surfaces in copiers and printers, detergents for use in sterilization equipment, and anti-fogging / anti-static lens cleaners. Out investment into this facility has been substantial since its acquisition, including the high-speed Electronic Liquid Filling (ELF) line used to package many of the items produced here.
Genie maintains constant research and development efforts in order to offer the most innovative, highest quality products while endlessly searching for cost-saving opportunities for our customers.
Our laboratory is located in our Rush, New York facility. Media pressure drop, gas removal efficiency, quality and other testing is performed here as well as most prototype assembly. We contract with several outside sources for particulate removal testing, UL (Underwriters Laboratory) testing, and additional services.
In addition, Genie has funded research at a major US University to develop the next-generation ozone filtration media.
